Isaiah 30:8-18 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
8 Go now, write it on a tablet1 for them, inscribe it on a scroll,2 that for the days to come it may be an everlasting witness.3 9 These are rebellious4 people, deceitful5 children, children unwilling to listen to the LORD's instruction.6 10 They say to the seers,7 "See no more visions8!" and to the prophets, "Give us no more visions of what is right! Tell us pleasant things,9 prophesy illusions.10 11 Leave this way,11 get off this path, and stop confronting12 us with the Holy One13 of Israel!" 12 Therefore, this is what the Holy One14 of Israel says: "Because you have rejected this message,15 relied on oppression16 and depended on deceit, 13 this sin will become for you like a high wall,17 cracked and bulging, that collapses18 suddenly,19 in an instant. 14 It will break in pieces like pottery,20 shattered so mercilessly that among its pieces not a fragment will be found for taking coals from a hearth or scooping water out of a cistern." 15 This is what the Sovereign21 LORD, the Holy One22 of Israel, says: "In repentance and rest23 is your salvation, in quietness and trust24 is your strength, but you would have none of it.25 16 You said, 'No, we will flee26 on horses.'27 Therefore you will flee! You said, 'We will ride off on swift horses.' Therefore your pursuers will be swift! 17 A thousand will flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five28 you will all flee29 away, till you are left30 like a flagstaff on a mountaintop, like a banner31 on a hill." 18 Yet the LORD longs32 to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion.33 For the LORD is a God of justice.34 Blessed are all who wait for him!35
