The Fall of Babylon

1 "Go down, sit in the dust,1 Virgin Daughter2 of Babylon; sit on the ground without a throne, Daughter of the Babylonians.a3 No more will you be called tender or delicate.4 2 Take millstones5 and grind6 flour; take off your veil.7 Lift up your skirts,8 bare your legs, and wade through the streams. 3 Your nakedness9 will be exposed and your shame10 uncovered. I will take vengeance;11 I will spare no one.12" 4 Our Redeemer13--the LORD Almighty14 is his name15-- is the Holy One16 of Israel. 5 "Sit in silence,17 go into darkness,18 Daughter of the Babylonians;19 no more will you be called queen20 of kingdoms.21 6 I was angry22 with my people and desecrated my inheritance;23 I gave them into your hand,24 and you showed them no mercy.25 Even on the aged you laid a very heavy yoke.
