Blow the trumpet1 in Zion,2 declare a holy fast,3 call a sacred assembly.416
Gather the people, consecrate5 the assembly; bring together the elders,6 gather the children, those nursing at the breast. Let the bridegroom7 leave his room and the bride her chamber.
Let the priests, who minister8 before the LORD, weep9 between the temple porch and the altar.10 Let them say, "Spare your people, O LORD. Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn,11 a byword12 among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, 'Where is their God?13' "
Then the LORD will be jealous14 for his land and take pity15 on his people.
The LORD will replya to them: "I am sending you grain, new wine16 and oil,17 enough to satisfy you fully;18 never again will I make you an object of scorn19 to the nations.
"I will drive the northern army20 far from you, pushing it into a parched and barren land, with its front columns going into the eastern21 seab and those in the rear into the western sea.c And its stench22 will go up; its smell will rise." Surely he has done great things.d21
Be not afraid,23 O land; be glad and rejoice.24 Surely the LORD has done great things.2522
Be not afraid, O wild animals, for the open pastures are becoming green.26 The trees are bearing their fruit; the fig tree27 and the vine28 yield their riches.2923
Be glad, O people of Zion, rejoice30 in the LORD your God, for he has given you the autumn rains in righteousness.e31 He sends you abundant showers,32 both autumn33 and spring rains,34 as before.
The threshing floors will be filled with grain; the vats will overflow35 with new wine36 and oil.
"I will repay you for the years the locusts37 have eaten38-- the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts and the locust swarmf-- my great army39 that I sent among you.
You will have plenty to eat, until you are full,40 and you will praise41 the name of the LORD your God, who has worked wonders42 for you; never again will my people be shamed.4327
Then you will know44 that I am in Israel, that I am the LORD 45 your God, and that there is no other; never again will my people be shamed.46
