1 Crónicas 22

1 Entonces David dijo: Esta es la casa del SEÑOR Dios, y este es el altar del holocausto para Israel.

2 Y dio órdenes David de reunir a los extranjeros que estaban en la tierra de Israel, y designó canteros para labrar piedras para edificar la casa de Dios.

3 Preparó David grandes cantidades de hierro para hacer clavos para las puertas de la entrada y para las grapas, y más bronce del que podía pesarse;

4 y madera de cedro incalculable, porque los sidonios y los tirios trajeron grandes cantidades de madera de cedro a David.

5 Y dijo David: Mi hijo Salomón es joven y sin experiencia, y la casa que ha de edificarse al SEÑOR será de gran magnificencia, de renombre y de gloria por todas las tierras. Por tanto haré preparativos para ella. Y David hizo grandes preparativos antes de su muerte.

6 Entonces llamó a su hijo Salomón, y le encargó que edificara una casa al SEÑOR, Dios de Israel.

7 Y dijo David a Salomón: Hijo mío, yo tenía el propósito de edificar una casa al nombre del SEÑOR mi Dios.

8 Pero vino a mí la palabra del SEÑOR, diciendo: "Tú has derramado sangre en abundancia, y has emprendido grandes guerras; no edificarás una casa a mi nombre, porque has derramado mucha sangre en la tierra delante de mí.

9 "He aquí, te nacerá un hijo, que será hombre de paz; yo le daré paz de todos sus enemigos en derredor, pues Salomón será su nombre y en sus días daré paz y reposo a Israel.

10 "El edificará una casa a mi nombre, y él será mi hijo y yo seré su padre; y estableceré el trono de su reino sobre Israel para siempre."

11 Ahora pues, hijo mío, el SEÑOR sea contigo para que prosperes y edifiques la casa del SEÑOR tu Dios tal como El ha hablado de ti.

12 Que el SEÑOR te dé prudencia y entendimiento, y te dé dominio sobre Israel, para que guardes la ley del SEÑOR tu Dios.

13 Entonces prosperarás, si te cuidas de observar los estatutos y ordenanzas que el SEÑOR ordenó a Moisés para Israel. Esfuérzate y sé valiente, no temas ni te acobardes.

14 He aquí, con grandes esfuerzos he preparado para la casa del SEÑOR cien mil talentos de oro y un millón de talentos de plata, y bronce y hierro sin medida, porque hay en abundancia; también he preparado madera y piedra, a lo cual tú podrás añadir.

15 Además, contigo hay muchos obreros, canteros, albañiles, carpinteros y todo experto en toda clase de obra.

16 Del oro, de la plata, del bronce y del hierro no hay límite. Levántate y trabaja, y que el SEÑOR sea contigo.

17 David también ordenó a todos los jefes de Israel que ayudaran a su hijo Salomón, diciendo:

18 ¿No está con vosotros el SEÑOR vuestro Dios? ¿Y no os ha dado paz por todos lados? Pues El ha entregado en mi mano a los habitantes de la tierra, y la tierra está sojuzgada delante del SEÑOR y delante de su pueblo.

19 Disponed ahora vuestro corazón y vuestra alma para buscar al SEÑOR vuestro Dios; levantaos, pues, y edificad el santuario del SEÑOR Dios, para que traigáis el arca del pacto del SEÑOR y los utensilios sagrados de Dios a la casa que se ha de edificar para el nombre del SEÑOR.

Chapter 22

David's preparations for the temple. (1-5) David's instructions to Solomon. (6-16) The prices commanded to assist. (17-19)

Verses 1-5 On occasion of the terrible judgment inflicted on Israel for the sin of David, God pointed out the place where he would have the temple built; upon which, David was excited to make preparations for the great work. David must not build, but he would do all he could; he prepared abundantly before his death. What our hands find to do for God, and our souls, and those round us, let us do it with all our might, before our death; for after death there is no device nor working. And when the Lord refuses to employ us in those services which we desired, we must not be discouraged or idle, but do what we can, though in a humbler sphere.

Verses 6-16 David gives Solomon the reason why he should build the temple. Because God named him. Nothing is more powerful to engage us in any service for God, than to know that we are appointed thereto. Because he would have leisure and opportunity to do it. He should have peace and quietness. Where God gives rest, he expects work. Because God had promised to establish his kingdom. God's gracious promises should quicken and strengthen our religious service. David delivered to Solomon an account of the vast preparations he had made for this building; not from pride and vain-glory, but to encourage Solomon to engage cheerfully in the great work. He must not think, by building the temple, to purchase a dispensation to sin; on the contrary, his doing that would not be accepted, if he did not take heed to fulfil the statutes of the Lord. In our spiritual work, as well as in our spiritual warfare, we have need of courage and resolution.

Verses 17-19 Whatever is done towards rendering the word of God generally known and attended to, is like bringing a stone, or an ingot of gold, towards erecting the temple. This should encourage us when we grieve that we do not see more fruit of our labours; much good may appear after our death, which we never thought of. Let us not then be weary of well doing. The work is in the hands of the Prince of peace. As he, the Author and Finisher of the work, is pleased to employ us as his instruments, let us arise and be doing, encouraging and helping one another; working by his rule, after his example, in dependence on his grace, assured that he will be with us, and that our labour shall not be in vain in the Lord.
