2 Samuel 9

1 Dijo David: ¿Hay todavía alguno que haya quedado de la casa de Saúl, para que yo le muestre bondad por amor a Jonatán?

2 Y había un siervo de la casa de Saúl que se llamaba Siba, y lo llamaron ante David. Y el rey le dijo: ¿Eres tú Siba? Y él respondió: Tu servidor.

3 Y dijo el rey: ¿No queda aún alguien de la casa de Saúl a quien yo pueda mostrar la bondad de Dios? Y Siba respondió al rey: Aún queda un hijo de Jonatán lisiado de ambos pies.

4 El rey le dijo: ¿Dónde está? Y Siba respondió al rey: He aquí, está en casa de Maquir, hijo de Amiel, en Lodebar.

5 Entonces el rey David mandó traerlo de la casa de Maquir, hijo de Amiel, de Lodebar.

6 Y Mefiboset, hijo de Jonatán, hijo de Saúl, vino a David, y cayendo sobre su rostro, se postró. Y David dijo: Mefiboset. Y éste respondió: He aquí tu siervo.

7 David le dijo: No temas, porque ciertamente te mostraré bondad por amor a tu padre Jonatán, y te devolveré toda la tierra de tu abuelo Saúl; y tú comerás siempre a mi mesa.

8 Se postró él de nuevo, y dijo: ¿Quién es tu siervo, para que tomes en cuenta a un perro muerto como yo?

9 Entonces el rey llamó a Siba, siervo de Saúl, y le dijo: Todo lo que pertenecía a Saúl y a su casa, lo he dado al nieto de tu señor.

10 Y tú, tus hijos y tus siervos cultivaréis la tierra para él, y le llevarás los frutos para que el nieto de tu señor tenga alimento; sin embargo, Mefiboset, nieto de tu señor, comerá siempre a mi mesa. Siba tenía quince hijos y veinte siervos.

11 Respondió Siba al rey: Conforme a todo lo que mi señor el rey mande a su siervo, así hará tu siervo. Y Mefiboset comió a la mesa de David como uno de los hijos del rey.

12 Mefiboset tenía un hijo pequeño que se llamaba Micaía. Todos los que moraban en la casa de Siba eran siervos de Mefiboset;

13 pero Mefiboset moraba en Jerusalén, porque siempre comía a la mesa del rey. Estaba lisiado de ambos pies.

2 Samuel 9 Commentary

Chapter 9

David sends for Mephibosheth. (1-8) And provides for him. (9-13)

Verses 1-8 Amidst numerous affairs we are apt to forget the gratitude we owe, and the engagements we are under, not only to our friends, but to God himself. Yet persons of real godliness will have no rest till they have discharged them. And the most proper objects of kindness and charity, frequently will not be found without inquiry. Jonathan was David's sworn friend, therefore he shows kindness to his son Mephibosheth. God is faithful to us; let us not be unfaithful to one another. If Providence has raised us, and our friends and their families are brought low, we must look upon that as giving us the fairer opportunity of being kind to them.

Verses 9-13 As David was a type of Christ, his Lord and Son, his Root and Offspring, let his kindness to Mephibosheth remind us of the kindness and love of God our Saviour to fallen man, to whom he was under no obligation, as David was to Jonathan. The Son of God seeks this lost and ruined race, who sought not after him. He comes to seek and to save them!
