Revelation 3:1-6 DBY

1 And to the angel of the assembly in Sardis write: These things saith he that has the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars: I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.
2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things that remain, which are a about to die, for I have not found thy works complete before my God.

References for Revelation 3:2

    • 3:2 - The imperfect tense. I translate 'are,' because 'were' supposes they are no longer 'about to die,' which is contrary to the passage. Perhaps 'have been' may be used. It refers to what they were found to be when he strengthened them. The point of departure of thought is not the writer's when writing, but the strengthener's when strengthening.
3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and keep [it] and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come [upon thee] as a thief, and thou shalt not know at what hour I shall come upon thee.
4 But thou hast a few names in Sardis which have not defiled their garments, and they shall walk with me in white, because they are worthy.
5 He that overcomes, *he* shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot his name out of the book of life, and will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.
6 He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies.
