References for Romans 8:19

    • Ð 8:19 - Or 'constant,' as Phil. 1.20.
20 for the creature has been made subject to vanity, not of its will, but by reason of him who has subjected [the same], in hope
21 that the creature itself also shall be set free from the bondage of corruption into the liberty of the glory b of the children of God.

      References for Romans 8:21

        • Ñ 8:21 - 'Glorious liberty,' as in A.V., does not give the sense. The creature has no part in the liberty of grace; but it will have in that which glory gives.
22 For we know that the whole creation c groans together and travails in pain together until now.

          References for Romans 8:22

            • Ò 8:22 - 'Creation' is the same in Greek as 'creature' in vers. 19-21; but the Greek for 'whole' gives it a concrete and not an abstract character, i.e. 'creation.'
23 And not only [that], but even *we* ourselves, who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, we also ourselves groan d in ourselves, awaiting adoption, e [that is] the redemption of our body.

              References for Romans 8:23

                • Ó 8:23 - As Mark 7.34.
                • Ô 8:23 - See Note, ver. 15.
24 For we have been saved in hope; but hope seen is not hope; for what any one sees, why does he also hope?
25 But if what we see not we hope, we expect in patience.
26 And in like manner the Spirit joins also its help f to our weakness; g for we do not know what we should pray for as is fitting, but the Spirit itself makes intercession with groanings which cannot be uttered.

                  References for Romans 8:26

                    • Õ 8:26 - It means 'to take up a person's cause, so as to help him.' The 'with,' added in Greek, is rendered 'join.' Only occurs here and Luke 10.40.
                    • Ö 8:26 - Or 'infirmity.'
27 But he who searches the hearts knows what [is] the mind of the Spirit, because he intercedes for saints according to God.
28 But we *do* h know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to purpose.
