Deuteronomy 32:18-28 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
18 You deserted the Rock, who fathered you; you forgot1 the God who gave you birth. 19 The LORD saw this and rejected them2 because he was angered by his sons and daughters.3 20 "I will hide my face4 from them," he said, "and see what their end will be; for they are a perverse generation,5 children who are unfaithful.6 21 They made me jealous7 by what is no god and angered me with their worthless idols.8 I will make them envious by those who are not a people; I will make them angry by a nation that has no understanding.9 22 For a fire has been kindled by my wrath,10 one that burns to the realm of deatha below.11 It will devour12 the earth and its harvests13 and set afire the foundations of the mountains.14 23 "I will heap calamities15 upon them and spend my arrows16 against them. 24 I will send wasting famine17 against them, consuming pestilence18 and deadly plague;19 I will send against them the fangs of wild beasts,20 the venom of vipers21 that glide in the dust.22 25 In the street the sword will make them childless; in their homes terror23 will reign.24 Young men and young women will perish, infants and gray-haired men.25 26 I said I would scatter26 them and blot out their memory from mankind,27 27 but I dreaded the taunt of the enemy, lest the adversary misunderstand28 and say, 'Our hand has triumphed; the LORD has not done all this.' "29 28 They are a nation without sense, there is no discernment30 in them.
