Remember the days of old;1 consider the generations long past.2 Ask your father and he will tell you, your elders, and they will explain to you.38
When the Most High4 gave the nations their inheritance, when he divided all mankind,5 he set up boundaries6 for the peoples according to the number of the sons of Israel.a79
For the LORD's portion8 is his people, Jacob his allotted inheritance.910
In a desert10 land he found him, in a barren and howling waste.11 He shielded12 him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of his eye,1311
like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young,14 that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them on its pinions.1512
The LORD alone led16 him;17 no foreign god was with him.1813
He made him ride on the heights19 of the land and fed him with the fruit of the fields. He nourished him with honey from the rock,20 and with oil21 from the flinty crag,
with curds and milk from herd and flock and with fattened lambs and goats, with choice rams of Bashan22 and the finest kernels of wheat.23 You drank the foaming blood of the grape.2415
Jeshurunb25 grew fat26 and kicked; filled with food, he became heavy and sleek. He abandoned27 the God who made him and rejected the Rock28 his Savior.
They made him jealous29 with their foreign gods and angered30 him with their detestable idols.
They sacrificed31 to demons,32 which are not God-- gods they had not known,33 gods that recently appeared,34 gods your fathers did not fear.
