1"'On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.'"

And Jesus answered him,
"It is said, 2'You shall not 3put the Lord your God to the test.'"

And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him
4until an opportune time.
Jesus Begins His Ministry
14 5And Jesus returned
6in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and
7a report about him went out through all the surrounding country.

And
8he taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.
Jesus Rejected at Nazareth
16 9And he came to
10Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And
11as was his custom,
12he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up
13to read.

And
14the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,

15"The Spirit of the Lord 16is upon me, because he has anointed me to 17proclaim good news to the poor. 18He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and 19recovering of sight to the blind, 20to set at liberty those who are oppressed,

21to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and
22sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were
23fixed on him.

And he began to say to them,
"Today 24this Scripture 25has been fulfilled in your hearing."
