And Jesus answered him,
1"It is written, 2"'You shall worship the Lord your God, and 3him only shall you serve.'"

4And he took him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, "If you are
5the Son of God, throw yourself down from here,
10
for it is written,
6"'He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you,'
11
and
7"'On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.'"

And Jesus answered him,
"It is said, 8'You shall not 9put the Lord your God to the test.'"

And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him
10until an opportune time.
Jesus Begins His Ministry
14 11And Jesus returned
12in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and
13a report about him went out through all the surrounding country.

And
14he taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.
Jesus Rejected at Nazareth
16 15And he came to
16Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And
17as was his custom,
18he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up
19to read.

20the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,

21"The Spirit of the Lord 22is upon me, because he has anointed me to 23proclaim good news to the poor. 24He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and 25recovering of sight to the blind, 26to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
