21in hope of eternal life, which God, 2who never lies, 3promised 4before the ages begana3
and 5at the proper time manifested in his word 6through the preaching 7with which I have been entrusted 8by the command of God our Savior;
To Titus, 9my true child in 10a common faith: 11Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.
512This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and 13appoint elders in every town as I directed you--
614if anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife,b and his children are believers and not open to the charge of 15debauchery or insubordination.
For an overseer,c16as God's steward, must be above reproach. He must not 17be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent 18or greedy for gain,
but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, 19and disciplined.
He must 20hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in 21soundd doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.
For there are many who are insubordinate, 22empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of 23the circumcision party.
They must be silenced, since 24they are upsetting whole families by teaching 25for shameful gain what they ought not to teach.
