God called1 the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters2 he called "seas."3 And God saw that it was good.411
Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation:5 seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.6" And it was so.712
The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds8 and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.913
And there was evening, and there was morning10--the third day.

And God said, "Let there be lights11 in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night,12 and let them serve as signs13 to mark seasons14 and days and years,1515
and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so.1616
God made two great lights--the greater light17 to govern18 the day and the lesser light to govern19 the night.20 He also made the stars.2117
