Genesis 46:2-12 (New International Version)

2 And God spoke to Israel1 in a vision at night2 and said, "Jacob! Jacob!" "Here I am,"3 he replied. 3 "I am God, the God of your father,"4 he said. "Do not be afraid5 to go down to Egypt,6 for I will make you into a great nation7 there.8 4 I will go down to Egypt with you, and I will surely bring you back again.9 And Joseph's own hand will close your eyes.10" 5 Then Jacob left Beersheba,11 and Israel's12 sons took their father Jacob and their children and their wives in the carts13 that Pharaoh had sent to transport him. 6 They also took with them their livestock and the possessions14 they had acquired15 in Canaan, and Jacob and all his offspring went to Egypt.16 7 He took with him to Egypt17 his sons and grandsons and his daughters and granddaughters--all his offspring.18 8 These are the names of the sons of Israel19 (Jacob and his descendants) who went to Egypt: Reuben the firstborn20 of Jacob. 9 The sons of Reuben:21 Hanoch, Pallu,22 Hezron and Carmi.23 10 The sons of Simeon:24 Jemuel,25 Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar26 and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman. 11 The sons of Levi:27 Gershon,28 Kohath29 and Merari.30 12 The sons of Judah:31 Er,32 Onan,33 Shelah, Perez34 and Zerah35 (but Er and Onan had died in the land of Canaan).36 The sons of Perez:37 Hezron and Hamul.
