Genesis 35:12

12 I will give you the land which I gave to Abraham and to Isaac, and I will also give it to your descendants after you."

Genesis 35:12 Meaning and Commentary

Genesis 35:12

And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee will I
give it
Meaning the land of Canaan, which, as he had by promise given it to his grandfather, and father, so he would give it to him; thus renewing the grant of it for his comfort, and the encouragement of his faith, when he had been in danger of being destroyed by the inhabitants of it, and was obliged to remove from one part of it to another: and to thy seed after thee will I give the land;
and not only make a grant of it to them, but put them into the possession of it, as in process of time he did.

Genesis 35:12 In-Context

10 God said to him, "Your name is Jacob, but from now on it will be Israel." So God named him Israel.
11 And God said to him, "I am Almighty God. Have many children. Nations will be descended from you, and you will be the ancestor of kings.
12 I will give you the land which I gave to Abraham and to Isaac, and I will also give it to your descendants after you."
13 Then God left him.
14 There, where God had spoken to him, Jacob set up a memorial stone and consecrated it by pouring wine and olive oil on it.
