Bel1 bows down, Nebo stoops low; their idols2 are borne by beasts of burden.a The images that are carried3 about are burdensome, a burden for the weary.

They stoop and bow down together; unable to rescue the burden, they themselves go off into captivity.43
"Listen5 to me, O house of Jacob, all you who remain6 of the house of Israel, you whom I have upheld since you were conceived,7 and have carried8 since your birth.94
Even to your old age and gray hairs10 I am he,11 I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain12 you and I will rescue you.

"To whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared?136
Some pour out gold from their bags and weigh out silver on the scales; they hire a goldsmith14 to make it into a god, and they bow down and worship it.157
They lift it to their shoulders and carry16 it; they set it up in its place, and there it stands. From that spot it cannot move.17 Though one cries out to it, it does not answer;18 it cannot save19 him from his troubles.

"Remember20 this, fix it in mind, take it to heart, you rebels.219

From the east I summon29 a bird of prey;30 from a far-off land, a man to fulfill my purpose. What I have said, that will I bring about; what I have planned,31 that will I do.3212
Listen33 to me, you stubborn-hearted,34 you who are far from righteousness.3513
I am bringing my righteousness36 near, it is not far away; and my salvation37 will not be delayed. I will grant salvation to Zion,38 my splendor39 to Israel.
