He said to me, "You are my servant,1 Israel, in whom I will display my splendor.2"
But I said, "I have labored to no purpose; I have spent my strength in vain3 and for nothing. Yet what is due me is in the LORD's hand,4 and my reward5 is with my God."65
And now the LORD says-- he who formed me in the womb7 to be his servant to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel8 to himself, for I am honored9 in the eyes of the LORD and my God has been my strength10--
he says: "It is too small a thing for you to be my servant11 to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept.12 I will also make you a light13 for the Gentiles,14 that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth."157
This is what the LORD says-- the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel16-- to him who was despised17 and abhorred by the nation, to the servant of rulers: "Kings18 will see you and rise up, princes will see and bow down,19 because of the LORD, who is faithful,20 the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen21 you."
This is what the LORD says: "In the time of my favor22 I will answer you, and in the day of salvation I will help you;23 I will keep24 you and will make you to be a covenant for the people,25 to restore the land26 and to reassign its desolate inheritances,279
to say to the captives,28 'Come out,' and to those in darkness,29 'Be free!' "They will feed beside the roads and find pasture on every barren hill.3010
They will neither hunger nor thirst,31 nor will the desert heat or the sun beat upon them.32 He who has compassion33 on them will guide34 them and lead them beside springs35 of water.
I will turn all my mountains into roads, and my highways36 will be raised up.3712
See, they will come from afar38-- some from the north, some from the west,39 some from the region of Aswan.a "
Shout for joy,40 O heavens; rejoice, O earth;41 burst into song, O mountains!42 For the LORD comforts43 his people and will have compassion44 on his afflicted ones.45
