Isaiah 14:19-29 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
19 But you are cast out1 of your tomb like a rejected branch; you are covered with the slain,2 with those pierced by the sword,3 those who descend to the stones of the pit.4 Like a corpse trampled underfoot, 20 you will not join them in burial,5 for you have destroyed your land and killed your people. The offspring6 of the wicked7 will never be mentioned8 again. 21 Prepare a place to slaughter his sons9 for the sins of their forefathers;10 they are not to rise to inherit the land and cover the earth with their cities. 22 "I will rise up11 against them," declares the LORD Almighty. "I will cut off from Babylon her name12 and survivors, her offspring and descendants,13" declares the LORD. 23 "I will turn her into a place for owls14 and into swampland; I will sweep her with the broom of destruction,15" declares the LORD Almighty.16

A Prophecy Against Assyria

24 The LORD Almighty has sworn,17 "Surely, as I have planned,18 so it will be, and as I have purposed, so it will stand.19 25 I will crush the Assyrian20 in my land; on my mountains I will trample him down. His yoke21 will be taken from my people, and his burden removed from their shoulders.22" 26 This is the plan23 determined for the whole world; this is the hand24 stretched out over all nations. 27 For the LORD Almighty has purposed,25 and who can thwart him? His hand26 is stretched out, and who can turn it back?27
