The Egyptians will lose heart,1 and I will bring their plans2 to nothing;3 they will consult the idols and the spirits of the dead, the mediums and the spiritists.44
I will hand the Egyptians over to the power of a cruel master, and a fierce king5 will rule over them," declares the Lord, the LORD Almighty.
The waters of the river will dry up,6 and the riverbed will be parched and dry.76
The canals will stink;8 the streams of Egypt will dwindle and dry up.9 The reeds10 and rushes will wither,117
also the plants12 along the Nile, at the mouth of the river. Every sown field13 along the Nile will become parched, will blow away and be no more.148
The fishermen15 will groan and lament, all who cast hooks16 into the Nile; those who throw nets on the water will pine away.
Those who work with combed flax17 will despair, the weavers of fine linen18 will lose hope.
The workers in cloth will be dejected, and all the wage earners will be sick at heart.
The officials of Zoan19 are nothing but fools; the wise counselors20 of Pharaoh give senseless advice.21 How can you say to Pharaoh, "I am one of the wise men,22 a disciple of the ancient kings"?
Where are your wise men23 now? Let them show you and make known what the LORD Almighty has planned24 against Egypt.
The officials of Zoan25 have become fools, the leaders of Memphisa26 are deceived; the cornerstones27 of her peoples have led Egypt astray.
