Isaiah 1:7-17 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
7 Your country is desolate,1 your cities burned with fire;2 your fields are being stripped by foreigners3 right before you, laid waste as when overthrown by strangers.4 8 The Daughter of Zion5 is left6 like a shelter in a vineyard, like a hut7 in a field of melons, like a city under siege. 9 Unless the LORD Almighty had left us some survivors,8 we would have become like Sodom, we would have been like Gomorrah.9 10 Hear the word of the LORD,10 you rulers of Sodom;11 listen to the law12 of our God, you people of Gomorrah!13 11 "The multitude of your sacrifices-- what are they to me?" says the LORD. "I have more than enough of burnt offerings, of rams and the fat of fattened animals;14 I have no pleasure15 in the blood of bulls16 and lambs and goats.17 12 When you come to appear before me, who has asked this of you,18 this trampling of my courts? 13 Stop bringing meaningless offerings!19 Your incense20 is detestable21 to me. New Moons,22 Sabbaths and convocations23-- I cannot bear your evil assemblies. 14 Your New Moon24 festivals and your appointed feasts25 my soul hates.26 They have become a burden to me;27 I am weary28 of bearing them. 15 When you spread out your hands29 in prayer, I will hide30 my eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen.31 Your hands32 are full of blood;33 16 wash34 and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight!35 Stop doing wrong,36 17 learn to do right!37 Seek justice,38 encourage the oppressed.a39 Defend the cause of the fatherless,40 plead the case of the widow.41
