Isaiah 25:2-12 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
2 You have made the city a heap of rubble,1 the fortified2 town a ruin,3 the foreigners' stronghold4 a city no more; it will never be rebuilt.5 3 Therefore strong peoples will honor you;6 cities of ruthless7 nations will revere you. 4 You have been a refuge8 for the poor,9 a refuge for the needy10 in his distress, a shelter from the storm11 and a shade from the heat. For the breath of the ruthless12 is like a storm driving against a wall 5 and like the heat of the desert. You silence13 the uproar of foreigners;14 as heat is reduced by the shadow of a cloud, so the song of the ruthless15 is stilled. 6 On this mountain16 the LORD Almighty will prepare a feast17 of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine-- the best of meats and the finest of wines.18 7 On this mountain he will destroy the shroud19 that enfolds all peoples,20 the sheet that covers all nations; 8 he will swallow up death21 forever. The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears22 from all faces; he will remove the disgrace23 of his people from all the earth. The LORD has spoken.24 9 In that day25 they will say, "Surely this is our God;26 we trusted27 in him, and he saved28 us. This is the LORD, we trusted in him; let us rejoice29 and be glad in his salvation."30 10 The hand of the LORD will rest on this mountain;31 but Moab32 will be trampled under him as straw is trampled down in the manure. 11 They will spread out their hands in it, as a swimmer spreads out his hands to swim. God will bring down33 their pride34 despite the clevernessa of their hands. 12 He will bring down your high fortified walls35 and lay them low;36 he will bring them down to the ground, to the very dust.
