Be stunned and amazed,1 blind yourselves and be sightless;2 be drunk,3 but not from wine,4 stagger,5 but not from beer.
The LORD has brought over you a deep sleep:6 He has sealed your eyes7 (the prophets);8 he has covered your heads (the seers).911
For you this whole vision10 is nothing but words sealed11 in a scroll. And if you give the scroll to someone who can read, and say to him, "Read this, please," he will answer, "I can't; it is sealed."
Or if you give the scroll to someone who cannot read, and say, "Read this, please," he will answer, "I don't know how to read."
The Lord says: "These people12 come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips,13 but their hearts are far from me.14 Their worship of me is made up only of rules taught by men.a1514
Therefore once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder;16 the wisdom of the wise17 will perish, the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish.18"
Woe to those who go to great depths to hide19 their plans from the LORD, who do their work in darkness and think, "Who sees us?20 Who will know?"2116
You turn things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be like the clay!22 Shall what is formed say to him who formed23 it, "He did not make me"? Can the pot say of the potter,24 "He knows nothing"?2517
In a very short time,26 will not Lebanon27 be turned into a fertile field28 and the fertile field seem like a forest?2918
In that day30 the deaf31 will hear the words of the scroll, and out of gloom and darkness32 the eyes of the blind will see.3319
Once more the humble34 will rejoice in the LORD; the needy35 will rejoice in the Holy One36 of Israel.
