Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees1 that give way;
say2 to those with fearful hearts,3 "Be strong, do not fear;4 your God will come,5 he will come with vengeance;6 with divine retribution he will come to save7 you."
Then will the eyes of the blind be opened8 and the ears of the deaf9 unstopped.
Then will the lame10 leap like a deer,11 and the mute tongue12 shout for joy.13 Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams14 in the desert.
The burning sand will become a pool, the thirsty ground15 bubbling springs.16 In the haunts where jackals17 once lay, grass and reeds18 and papyrus will grow.
And a highway19 will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness.20 The unclean21 will not journey on it; it will be for those who walk in that Way; wicked fools will not go about on it.a9
No lion22 will be there, nor will any ferocious beast23 get up on it; they will not be found there. But only the redeemed24 will walk there,
and the ransomed25 of the LORD will return. They will enter Zion with singing;26 everlasting joy27 will crown their heads. Gladness28 and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.29
