And Hezekiah prayed1 to the LORD:
"O LORD Almighty, God of Israel, enthroned2 between the cherubim,3 you alone are God4 over all the kingdoms5 of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.617
Give ear, O LORD, and hear;7 open your eyes, O LORD, and see;8 listen to all the words Sennacherib9 has sent to insult10 the living God.1118
"It is true, O LORD, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste all these peoples and their lands.1219
They have thrown their gods into the fire13 and destroyed them,14 for they were not gods15 but only wood and stone, fashioned by human hands.1620
Now, O LORD our God, deliver17 us from his hand, so that all kingdoms on earth18 may know that you alone, O LORD, are God.a19"
Then Isaiah son of Amoz20 sent a message to Hezekiah: "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Because you have prayed to me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria,
this is the word the LORD has spoken against him: "The Virgin Daughter21 of Zion22 despises and mocks you. The Daughter of Jerusalem tosses her head23 as you flee.
Who is it you have insulted and blasphemed?24 Against whom have you raised your voice25 and lifted your eyes in pride?26 Against the Holy One27 of Israel!
By your messengers you have heaped insults on the Lord. And you have said, 'With my many chariots28 I have ascended the heights of the mountains, the utmost heights29 of Lebanon.30 I have cut down its tallest cedars, the choicest of its pines.31 I have reached its remotest heights, the finest of its forests.
I have dug wells in foreign landsb and drunk the water there. With the soles of my feet I have dried up32 all the streams of Egypt.33'
