Isaiah 41:18-28 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
18 I will make rivers flow1 on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert2 into pools of water,3 and the parched ground into springs.4 19 I will put in the desert5 the cedar and the acacia,6 the myrtle and the olive. I will set pines7 in the wasteland, the fir and the cypress8 together,9 20 so that people may see and know,10 may consider and understand,11 that the hand12 of the LORD has done this, that the Holy One13 of Israel has created14 it. 21 "Present your case,15" says the LORD. "Set forth your arguments," says Jacob's King.16 22 "Bring in [ your idols] to tell us what is going to happen.17 Tell us what the former things18 were, so that we may consider them and know their final outcome. Or declare to us the things to come,19 23 tell us what the future holds, so we may know20 that you are gods. Do something, whether good or bad,21 so that we will be dismayed22 and filled with fear. 24 But you are less than nothing23 and your works are utterly worthless;24 he who chooses you is detestable.25 25 "I have stirred26 up one from the north,27 and he comes-- one from the rising sun who calls on my name. He treads28 on rulers as if they were mortar, as if he were a potter treading the clay. 26 Who told of this from the beginning,29 so we could know, or beforehand, so we could say, 'He was right'? No one told of this, no one foretold30 it, no one heard any words31 from you. 27 I was the first to tell32 Zion, 'Look, here they are!' I gave to Jerusalem a messenger of good tidings.33 28 I look but there is no one34-- no one among them to give counsel,35 no one to give answer36 when I ask them.
