"Who has stirred1 up one from the east,2 calling him in righteousness3 to his servicea ?4 He hands nations over to him and subdues kings before him. He turns them to dust5 with his sword, to windblown chaff6 with his bow.73
He pursues them and moves on unscathed,8 by a path his feet have not traveled before.
Who has done this and carried it through, calling9 forth the generations from the beginning?10 I, the LORD--with the first of them and with the last11--I am he.12"
The islands13 have seen it and fear; the ends of the earth14 tremble. They approach and come forward;
each helps the other and says to his brother, "Be strong!15"
The craftsman16 encourages the goldsmith,17 and he who smooths with the hammer spurs on him who strikes the anvil. He says of the welding, "It is good." He nails down the idol so it will not topple.188
"But you, O Israel, my servant,19 Jacob, whom I have chosen,20 you descendants of Abraham21 my friend,229
I took you from the ends of the earth,23 from its farthest corners I called24 you. I said, 'You are my servant';25 I have chosen26 you and have not rejected you.
So do not fear,27 for I am with you;28 do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen29 you and help30 you; I will uphold you31 with my righteous right hand.3211
"All who rage33 against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced;34 those who oppose35 you will be as nothing and perish.3612
Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them.37 Those who wage war against you will be as nothing38 at all.
