"Bring in [ your idols] to tell us what is going to happen.1 Tell us what the former things2 were, so that we may consider them and know their final outcome. Or declare to us the things to come,323
tell us what the future holds, so we may know4 that you are gods. Do something, whether good or bad,5 so that we will be dismayed6 and filled with fear.
But you are less than nothing7 and your works are utterly worthless;8 he who chooses you is detestable.925

Who told of this from the beginning,13 so we could know, or beforehand, so we could say, 'He was right'? No one told of this, no one foretold14 it, no one heard any words15 from you.
I was the first to tell16 Zion, 'Look, here they are!' I gave to Jerusalem a messenger of good tidings.1728
I look but there is no one18-- no one among them to give counsel,19 no one to give answer20 when I ask them.
See, they are all false! Their deeds amount to nothing;21 their images22 are but wind23 and confusion.
