Let the desert1 and its towns raise their voices; let the settlements where Kedar2 lives rejoice. Let the people of Sela3 sing for joy; let them shout from the mountaintops.412
Let them give glory5 to the LORD and proclaim his praise6 in the islands.713
The LORD will march out like a mighty8 man, like a warrior9 he will stir up his zeal;10 with a shout11 he will raise the battle cry and will triumph over his enemies.1214
"For a long time I have kept silent,13 I have been quiet and held myself back.14 But now, like a woman in childbirth, I cry out, I gasp and pant.1515
I will lay waste16 the mountains17 and hills and dry up all their vegetation; I will turn rivers into islands and dry up18 the pools.
I will lead19 the blind20 by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light21 before them and make the rough places smooth.22 These are the things I will do; I will not forsake23 them.
But those who trust in idols, who say to images, 'You are our gods,'24 will be turned back in utter shame.25
"Hear, you deaf;26 look, you blind, and see!
Who is blind27 but my servant,28 and deaf like the messenger29 I send? Who is blind like the one committed30 to me, blind like the servant of the LORD?
You have seen many things, but have paid no attention; your ears are open, but you hear nothing."3121
It pleased the LORD for the sake32 of his righteousness to make his law33 great and glorious.
