Isaiah 45:1-9 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
1 "This is what the LORD says to his anointed,1 to Cyrus,2 whose right hand I take hold3 of to subdue nations4 before him and to strip kings of their armor, to open doors before him so that gates will not be shut: 2 I will go before you5 and will level6 the mountainsa; I will break down gates7 of bronze and cut through bars of iron.8 3 I will give you the treasures9 of darkness, riches stored in secret places,10 so that you may know11 that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.12 4 For the sake of Jacob my servant,13 of Israel my chosen, I summon you by name and bestow on you a title of honor, though you do not acknowledge14 me. 5 I am the LORD, and there is no other;15 apart from me there is no God.16 I will strengthen you,17 though you have not acknowledged me, 6 so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting18 men may know19 there is none besides me.20 I am the LORD, and there is no other. 7 I form the light and create darkness,21 I bring prosperity and create disaster;22 I, the LORD, do all these things. 8 "You heavens above, rain23 down righteousness;24 let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation25 spring up, let righteousness grow with it; I, the LORD, have created it. 9 "Woe to him who quarrels26 with his Maker,27 to him who is but a potsherd28 among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter,29 'What are you making?'30 Does your work say, 'He has no hands'?31
