"I have trodden the winepress1 alone; from the nations no one was with me. I trampled2 them in my anger and trod them down in my wrath;3 their blood spattered my garments,4 and I stained all my clothing.
For the day of vengeance5 was in my heart, and the year of my redemption has come.
I looked, but there was no one6 to help, I was appalled that no one gave support; so my own arm7 worked salvation for me, and my own wrath sustained me.86
I trampled9 the nations in my anger; in my wrath I made them drunk10 and poured their blood11 on the ground."
I will tell of the kindnesses12 of the LORD, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the LORD has done for us-- yes, the many good things13 he has done for the house of Israel, according to his compassion14 and many kindnesses.
He said, "Surely they are my people,15 sons who will not be false to me"; and so he became their Savior.169
In all their distress he too was distressed, and the angel17 of his presence18 saved them. In his love and mercy he redeemed19 them; he lifted them up and carried20 them all the days of old.2110
Yet they rebelled22 and grieved his Holy Spirit.23 So he turned and became their enemy24 and he himself fought25 against them.
Then his people recalleda the days of old, the days of Moses and his people-- where is he who brought them through the sea,26 with the shepherd of his flock?27 Where is he who set his Holy Spirit28 among them,
who sent his glorious arm29 of power to be at Moses' right hand, who divided the waters30 before them, to gain for himself everlasting renown,3113
who led32 them through the depths?33 Like a horse in open country, they did not stumble;34
