"But when the seventy years1 are fulfilled, I will punish the king of Babylon2 and his nation, the land of the Babylonians,a for their guilt," declares the LORD, "and will make it desolate3 forever.
I will bring upon that land all the things I have spoken against it, all that are written4 in this book and prophesied by Jeremiah against all the nations.
They themselves will be enslaved5 by many nations6 and great kings; I will repay7 them according to their deeds and the work of their hands."
This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, said to me: "Take from my hand this cup8 filled with the wine of my wrath and make all the nations to whom I send9 you drink it.
When they drink10 it, they will stagger11 and go mad12 because of the sword13 I will send among them."
So I took the cup from the LORD's hand and made all the nations to whom he sent14 me drink it:
Jerusalem15 and the towns of Judah, its kings and officials, to make them a ruin16 and an object of horror and scorn17 and cursing,18 as they are today;1919
Pharaoh king20 of Egypt,21 his attendants, his officials and all his people,
and all the foreign people there; all the kings of Uz;22 all the kings of the Philistines23 (those of Ashkelon,24 Gaza,25 Ekron, and the people left at Ashdod);
Edom,26 Moab27 and Ammon;2822
all the kings of Tyre29 and Sidon;30 the kings of the coastlands31 across the sea;
