10 Cross over to the coasts of Kittima1 and look, send to Kedarb2 and observe closely; see if there has ever been anything like this: 11 Has a nation ever changed its gods? (Yet they are not gods3 at all.) But my people have exchanged theirc Glory4 for worthless idols. 12 Be appalled at this, O heavens, and shudder with great horror," declares the LORD. 13 "My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken5 me, the spring of living water,6 and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water. 14 Is Israel a servant, a slave7 by birth? Why then has he become plunder? 15 Lions8 have roared; they have growled at him. They have laid waste9 his land; his towns are burned10 and deserted.11 16 Also, the men of Memphisd12 and Tahpanhes13 have shaved the crown of your head.e 17 Have you not brought this on yourselves14 by forsaking15 the LORD your God when he led you in the way? 18 Now why go to Egypt16 to drink water from the Shihorf ?17 And why go to Assyria18 to drink water from the Riverg ?19 19 Your wickedness will punish you; your backsliding20 will rebuke21 you. Consider then and realize how evil and bitter22 it is for you when you forsake23 the LORD your God and have no awe24 of me," declares the Lord, the LORD Almighty. 20 "Long ago you broke off your yoke25 and tore off your bonds;26 you said, 'I will not serve you!'27 Indeed, on every high hill28 and under every spreading tree29 you lay down as a prostitute.30
