"Come down from your glory and sit on the parched ground,1 O inhabitants of the Daughter of Dibon,2 for he who destroys Moab will come up against you and ruin your fortified cities.319
Stand by the road and watch, you who live in Aroer.4 Ask the man fleeing and the woman escaping, ask them, 'What has happened?'
Moab is disgraced, for she is shattered. Wail5 and cry out! Announce by the Arnon6 that Moab is destroyed.
Judgment has come to the plateau7-- to Holon,8 Jahzah9 and Mephaath,1022
to Dibon,11 Nebo12 and Beth Diblathaim,
to Kiriathaim,13 Beth Gamul and Beth Meon,1424
to Kerioth15 and Bozrah16-- to all the towns17 of Moab, far and near.
Moab's horna18 is cut off; her arm19 is broken," declares the LORD.
"Make her drunk,20 for she has defied21 the LORD. Let Moab wallow in her vomit;22 let her be an object of ridicule.2327
Was not Israel the object of your ridicule?24 Was she caught among thieves,25 that you shake your head26 in scorn27 whenever you speak of her?
Abandon your towns and dwell among the rocks, you who live in Moab. Be like a dove28 that makes its nest at the mouth of a cave.29
