But I am full of the wrath1 of the LORD, and I cannot hold it in.2 "Pour it out on the children in the street and on the young men3 gathered together; both husband and wife will be caught in it, and the old, those weighed down with years.412
Their houses will be turned over to others,5 together with their fields and their wives,6 when I stretch out my hand7 against those who live in the land," declares the LORD.
"From the least to the greatest, all8 are greedy for gain;9 prophets and priests alike, all practice deceit.1014
They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. 'Peace, peace,' they say, when there is no peace.1115
Are they ashamed of their loathsome conduct? No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to blush.12 So they will fall among the fallen; they will be brought down when I punish13 them," says the LORD.
This is what the LORD says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths,14 ask where the good way15 is, and walk in it, and you will find rest16 for your souls. But you said, 'We will not walk in it.'
I appointed watchmen17 over you and said, 'Listen to the sound of the trumpet!'18 But you said, 'We will not listen.'1918
Therefore hear, O nations; observe, O witnesses, what will happen to them.
Hear, O earth:20 I am bringing disaster21 on this people, the fruit of their schemes,22 because they have not listened to my words23 and have rejected my law.2420
What do I care about incense from Sheba25 or sweet calamus26 from a distant land? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable;27 your sacrifices28 do not please me."2921
Therefore this is what the LORD says: "I will put obstacles before this people. Fathers and sons alike will stumble30 over them; neighbors and friends will perish."
