Job 22:2-12 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
2 "Can a man be of benefit to God?1 Can even a wise man benefit him?2 3 What pleasure3 would it give the Almighty if you were righteous?4 What would he gain if your ways were blameless?5 4 "Is it for your piety that he rebukes you and brings charges against you?6 5 Is not your wickedness great? Are not your sins7 endless?8 6 You demanded security9 from your brothers for no reason;10 you stripped men of their clothing, leaving them naked.11 7 You gave no water12 to the weary and you withheld food from the hungry,13 8 though you were a powerful man, owning land14-- an honored man,15 living on it.16 9 And you sent widows17 away empty-handed18 and broke the strength of the fatherless.19 10 That is why snares20 are all around you,21 why sudden peril terrifies you,22 11 why it is so dark23 you cannot see, and why a flood of water covers you.24 12 "Is not God in the heights of heaven?25 And see how lofty are the highest stars!
