Because he takes note of their deeds,1 he overthrows them in the night2 and they are crushed.326
He punishes them for their wickedness4 where everyone can see them,
because they turned from following him5 and had no regard for any of his ways.628
They caused the cry of the poor to come before him, so that he heard the cry of the needy.729
But if he remains silent,8 who can condemn him?9 If he hides his face,10 who can see him? Yet he is over man and nation alike,1130
to keep a godless12 man from ruling,13 from laying snares for the people.1431
"Suppose a man says to God, 'I am guilty15 but will offend no more.
Teach me what I cannot see;16 if I have done wrong, I will not do so again.'1733
Should God then reward you on your terms, when you refuse to repent?18 You must decide, not I; so tell me what you know.
"Men of understanding declare, wise men who hear me say to me,
'Job speaks without knowledge;19 his words lack insight.'20
