the young men saw me and stepped aside1 and the old men rose to their feet;2
the chief men refrained from speaking3 and covered their mouths with their hands;4
the voices of the nobles were hushed,5 and their tongues stuck to the roof of their mouths.6
Whoever heard me spoke well of me, and those who saw me commended me,7
because I rescued the poor8 who cried for help, and the fatherless9 who had none to assist him.10
The man who was dying blessed me;11 I made the widow's12 heart sing.
I put on righteousness13 as my clothing; justice was my robe and my turban.14
I was eyes15 to the blind and feet to the lame.16
I was a father to the needy;17 I took up the case18 of the stranger.19
I broke the fangs of the wicked and snatched the victims20 from their teeth.21
"I thought, 'I will die in my own house, my days as numerous as the grains of sand.22
