Your words have supported those who stumbled;1 you have strengthened faltering knees.2
But now trouble comes to you, and you are discouraged;3 it strikes4 you, and you are dismayed.5
Should not your piety be your confidence6 and your blameless7 ways your hope?
"Consider now: Who, being innocent, has ever perished?8 Where were the upright ever destroyed?9
As I have observed,10 those who plow evil11 and those who sow trouble reap it.12
At the breath of God13 they are destroyed; at the blast of his anger they perish.14
The lions may roar15 and growl, yet the teeth of the great lions16 are broken.17
The lion perishes for lack of prey,18 and the cubs of the lioness are scattered.19
"A word20 was secretly brought to me, my ears caught a whisper21 of it.22
Amid disquieting dreams in the night, when deep sleep falls on men,23
fear and trembling24 seized me and made all my bones shake.25
