He performs wonders1 that cannot be fathomed,2 miracles that cannot be counted.3
He bestows rain on the earth;4 he sends water upon the countryside.5
The lowly he sets on high,6 and those who mourn7 are lifted8 to safety.
He thwarts the plans9 of the crafty, so that their hands achieve no success.10
He catches the wise11 in their craftiness,12 and the schemes of the wily are swept away.13
Darkness14 comes upon them in the daytime; at noon they grope as in the night.15
He saves the needy16 from the sword in their mouth; he saves them from the clutches of the powerful.17
So the poor18 have hope, and injustice shuts its mouth.19
"Blessed is the man whom God corrects;20 so do not despise the discipline21 of the Almighty.22
For he wounds, but he also binds up;23 he injures, but his hands also heal.24
From six calamities he will rescue25 you; in seven no harm will befall you.26
