Luke 9:58

58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the heaven have nests, but the Son of man has not where to lay his head.

Luke 9:58 Meaning and Commentary

Luke 9:58

And Jesus said unto him, foxes have holes
Both the words of this man to Christ, and Christ's answer to him, are exactly the same as in Matthew, which makes it look as if it was the same history; though it is not improbable, that Christ might be accosted in the same manner by another person, at another time and place, and return a like answer to each; (See Gill on Matthew 8:20).

Luke 9:58 In-Context

56 For the Son of man is not come to lose men’s souls, but to save them. And they went to another village.
57 And it came to pass that as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the heaven have nests, but the Son of man has not where to lay his head.
59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father.
60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead, but go thou and declare the kingdom of God.
