John 12:14 Meaning and Commentary

John 12:14

And Jesus, when he had found a young ass
Which he sent his disciples for, to a neighbouring village, and they brought to him:

sat thereon, as it is written;
in ( Zechariah 9:9 ) though some part of the words seems to be taken out of ( Isaiah 62:11 ) ; (See Gill on Matthew 21:5); and so Nonnus paraphrases it here, "that it might be fulfilled which Esaias said".

John 12:14 In-Context

12 On the next day the large crowd who had come to the feast, [when they] heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13 took the branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, and began crying out, "Hosanna! Blessed [is] the one who comes in the name of the Lord, even the king of Israel!"
14 So Jesus found a young donkey [and] sat on it, just as it is written,
15 "Do not be afraid, daughter of Zion! Behold, your king is coming, seated on the foal of a donkey!"
16 (His disciples did not understand these [things] at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these [things] had been written about him and they did these [things] to him.)
