To thispresenthour we are both1hungry and thirsty, and are poorlyclothed, and are roughlytreated, and are homeless;
and we toil, 2working with our ownhands; when we are 3reviled, we bless; when we are 4persecuted, we endure;
when we are slandered, we try to aconciliate; we have 5become as the scum of the world, the dregs of allthings, even untilnow.
I do not writethesethings to 6shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved7children.
For if you were to havecountless8tutors in Christ, yet you would not have manyfathers, for in 9ChristJesus I 10became your fatherthrough the 11gospel.
16Therefore I exhort you, be 12imitators of me.
For thisreason I 13have sent to you 14Timothy, who is my 15beloved and faithfulchild in the Lord, and he will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, 16just as I teacheverywhere in everychurch.
18Nowsome have become b17arrogant, as though I were not 18coming to you.
But I 19will come to you soon, 20if the Lordwills, and I shall find out, not the cwords of those who are 21arrogant but their power.
For the kingdom of God does 22not consist in dwords but in power.
21What do you desire? 23Shall I come to you with a rod, or with love and a spirit of gentleness?
