and saying, "1Where is the promise of His 2coming? For ever since the fathers3fellasleep, allcontinuesjust as it was 4from the beginning of creation."
For awhen they maintainthis, it escapes their notice that 5by the word of God the heavensexistedlongago and the earth was 6formed out of water and by water,
6throughwhich7the world at that time was 8destroyed, being flooded with water.
But by His word9the presentheavens and earth are being reserved for 10fire, kept for 11the day of judgment and destruction of ungodlymen.
But do not let thisone fact escape your notice, 12beloved, that with the Lordoneday is like a thousandyears, and 13a thousandyearslikeoneday.
914The Lord is not slow about His promise, as somecountslowness, but 15is patienttoward you, 16not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
But 17the day of the Lord18will comelike a thief, in which19the heavens20will passaway with a roar and the 21elements will be destroyed with intenseheat, and 22the earth and bits works will be cburned up.
Since allthesethings are to be destroyed in thisway, whatsort of people ought you to be in holyconduct and godliness,
1223looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which24the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the 25elements will melt with intenseheat!
But according to His 26promise we are looking for 27newheavens and a newearth, 28in whichrighteousnessdwells.
1429Therefore, 30beloved, since you look for thesethings, be diligent to be 31found by Him in peace, 32spotless and blameless,
