1
Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all1their hosts.
2
By 2the seventhdayGodcompleted His workwhich He had done, and 3He rested on the seventhday from all His workwhich He had done.
3
Then Godblessed the seventhday and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His workwhichGod had createdaand made.
4b4This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in 5the day that the LORDGodmadeearth and heaven.
56Now noshrub of the field was yet in the earth, and noplant of the field had yetsprouted, 7for the LORDGod had not sentrain upon the earth, and there was noman to ccultivate the ground.
6
But a dmist used to rise from the earth and water the wholeesurface of the ground.
7
Then the LORDGodformedman of 8dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life ; and 9manbecame a livingfbeing.
8
The LORDGodplanted a 10gardentoward the east, in Eden ; and there He placed the manwhom He had formed.
9
Out of the ground the LORDGod caused to grow11everytree that is pleasing to the sight and good for food ; 12the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
10
Now a 13rivergflowed out of Eden to water the garden ; and from there it divided and becamefourhrivers.
11
The name of the first is Pishon ; it iflowsaround the wholeland of 14Havilah, wherethere is gold.
12
The gold of that land is good ; the bdellium and the onyxstone are there.
13
The name of the secondriver is Gihon ; it jflowsaround the wholeland of Cush.
14
The name of the thirdriver is k15Tigris ; it lflowseast of Assyria. And the fourthriver is the m16Euphrates.
15
Then the LORDGodtook the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.
16
The LORDGod17commanded the man, saying, "From anytree of the garden you may eatfreely ;
17
but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not neat, for in the day that you eat from it 18you will surelydie."
18
Then the LORDGodsaid, "It is not good for the man to be alone ; 19I will make him a helperosuitable for him."
1920Out of the ground the LORDGodformedeverybeast of the field and everybird of the psky, and 21brought them to the man to seewhat he would call them; and whatever the mancalled a livingcreature, that was its name.
20
The mangavenames to all the cattle, and to the birds of the qsky, and to everybeast of the field, but for rAdam there was not found22a helperssuitable for him.
21
So the LORDGod caused a 23deepsleep to fall upon the man, and he slept ; then He tookone of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place.
22
The LORDGodtfashioned into a woman24the ribwhich He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man.
23
The mansaid, "25This is nowbone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh ; uShe shall be calledvWoman, Becausewshe was taken out of xMan."
2426For thisreason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife ; and they shall becomeoneflesh.
2527And the man and his wife were bothnaked and were not ashamed.
