Then Jacoblifted his eyes and looked, and behold, 1Esau was coming, and fourhundredmen with him. So he divided the childrenaamongLeah and Rachel and the twomaids.

He put the maids and their childrenbin front, and Leah and her childrencnext, and Rachel and Josephdlast.

But he himselfpassed on ahead of them and 2boweddown to the groundseventimes, until he camenear to his brother.

Then Esauran to meet him and embraced him, and 3fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.

He lifted his eyes and saw the women and the children, and said, "eWho are these with you?" So he said, "4The childrenwhomGod has graciouslygiven your servant."

Then the maidscamenearfwith their children, and they boweddown.
7Leahlikewisecamenear with her children, and they boweddown ; and afterwardJosephcamenear with Rachel, and they boweddown.

And he said, "What do you mean by 5allthiscompanywhich I have met ?" And he said, "6To findfavor in the sight of my lord."

But Esausaid, "7I haveplenty, my brother ; let what you have be your own."
10Jacobsaid, "No, please, ifnow I have foundfavor in your sight, then take my present from my hand, gfor I see your face as one sees the face of God, and you have received me favorably.
11"Pleasetake my h8giftwhich has been brought to you, 9becauseGod has dealtgraciously with me and because I haveiplenty." Thus he urged him and he took it.

Then jEsau said, "Let us take our journey and go, and I will gobefore you."

But he said to him, "My lordknows that the children are frail and that the flocks and herds which are nursing are ka care to me. And if they are drivenhardoneday, all the flocks will die.
14"Please let my lordpass on before his servant, and I will proceed at my leisure, according to the pace of the cattle that are before me and according to the pace of the children, until I come to my lord at 10Seir."
15Esausaid, "Please let me leave with you some of the peoplewho are with me." But he said, "lWhat need is there? 11Let me findfavor in the sight of my lord."

So Esaureturned that day on his way to Seir.
17Jacobjourneyed to m12Succoth, and built for himself a house and madebooths for his livestock ; therefore the place is namedSuccoth.

Now Jacobcamesafely to the city of 13Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from 14Paddan-aram, and campedbefore the city.
1915He bought the piece of landwhere he had pitched his tent from the hand of the sons of Hamor, Shechem'sfather, for one hundrednpieces of money.

Then he erectedthere an altar and called it oEl-Elohe-Israel.
