Then Godsaid to Jacob, "Arise, go up to 1Bethel and alivethere, and make an altarthere to 2God, who appeared to you 3when you fledbfrom your brotherEsau."

So Jacobsaid to his 4household and to allwho were with him, "Putaway5the foreigngodswhich are among you, and 6purify yourselves and change your garments ;

and let us arise and go up to Bethel, and I will make7an altarthere to God, 8who answered me in the day of my distress and 9has been with me cwherever I have gone."

So they gave to Jacoball the foreigngodswhichdthey had and the ringswhich were in their ears, and Jacobhid them under the eoakwhich was nearShechem.

As they journeyed, there was f10a greatterror upon the citieswhich were around them, and they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.

So Jacobcame to 11Luz (that is, Bethel ), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the peoplewho were with him.
712He built an altarthere, and called the placegEl-bethel, becausethereGod had revealed Himself to him when he fledhfrom his brother.

Now 13Deborah, Rebekah'snurse, died, and she was buriedbelowBethelunder the oak ; it was namediAllon-bacuth.

Then Godappeared to Jacobagain when he came from Paddan-aram, and He 14blessed him.
1015Godsaid to him, "Your name is Jacob ; jYou shall nolonger be calledJacob, But Israel shall be your name." Thus He calledkhim Israel.
11God also said to him, "I am l16GodAlmighty ; 17Be fruitful and multiply ; A nation and a 18company of nations shall mcome from you, And 19kings shall ncomeforth from oyou.

"20The landwhich I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give it to you, And I will give the land to your pdescendants after you."

Then 21Godwent up from him in the placewhere He had spoken with him.
14Jacobset up 22a pillar in the placewhere He had spoken with him, a pillar of stone, and he poured out a drinkoffering on it; he also pouredoil on it.

So Jacobnamed the placewhereGod had spoken with him, q23Bethel.

Then they journeyed from Bethel ; and when there was stillsomedistance to go to 24Ephrath, Rachel began to givebirth and she rsufferedseverelabor.

When she was in severelabor the midwifesaid to her, "Do not fear, for now25you have another son."

It came about as her soul was departing (for she died ), that she named him sBen-oni ; but his fathercalled him tBenjamin.

So 26Racheldied and was buried on the way to 27Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem ).
20Jacobset up a pillarover her grave ; that is the 28pillar of Rachel'sgrave to this day.

Then Israeljourneyed on and pitched his tentbeyond the u29tower of vEder.

It came about while Israel was dwelling in that land, that 30Reubenwent and lay with Bilhah his father'sconcubine, and Israelheard of it. Now there were twelvesons of Jacob -
2331the sons of Leah : Reuben, Jacob'sfirstborn, then Simeon and Levi and Judah and Issachar and Zebulun ;
2432the sons of Rachel : Joseph and Benjamin ;

and 33the sons of Bilhah, Rachel'smaid : Dan and Naphtali ;

and 34the sons of Zilpah, Leah'smaid : Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacobwho were born to him in Paddan-aram.
27Jacobcame to his fatherIsaac at 35Mamre of 36Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron ), whereAbraham and Isaac had sojourned.

Now the days of Isaac were 37one hundred and eightyyears.
29Isaacbreathed his last and died and was 38gathered to his people, an 39oldmanwof ripeage ; and 40his sonsEsau and Jacobburied him.
