Isaiah 60:12-22

12 "For the 1nation and the kingdom which will not serve you will perish, And the nations will be utterly ruined.
13 "The 2glory of Lebanon will come to you, The 3juniper, the box tree and the cypress together, To beautify the place of My sanctuary; And I shall make the 4place of My feet glorious.
14 "The 5sons of those who afflicted you will come bowing to you, And all those who despised you will bow themselves at the soles of your feet; And they will call you the 6city of the LORD, The 7Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
15 "Whereas you have been 8forsaken and 9hated With no one passing through, I will make you an everlasting 10pride, A joy from generation to generation.
16 "You will also 11suck the milk of nations And suck the breast of kings; Then you will know that I, the LORD, am your 12Savior And your 13Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
17 "Instead of bronze I will bring gold, And instead of iron I will bring silver, And instead of wood, bronze, And instead of stones, iron. And I will make peace your administrators And righteousness your overseers.
18 "14Violence will not be heard again in your land, Nor 15devastation or destruction within your borders; But you will call your 16walls salvation, and your 17gates praise.
19 "No longer will you have the 18sun for light by day, Nor for brightness will the moon give you light; But you will have the 19LORD for an everlasting light, And your 20God for your glory.
20 "Your 21sun will no longer set, Nor will your moon wane; For you will have the LORD for an everlasting light, And the days of your 22mourning will be over.
21 "Then all your 23people will be righteous; They will 24possess the land forever, The branch of My planting, The 25work of My hands, That I may be 26glorified.
22 "The 27smallest one will become a clan, And the least one a mighty nation. I, the LORD, will hasten it in its time."

Isaiah 60:12-22 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO ISAIAH 60

As, in the two preceding chapters, the hypocrisy and formality, the profaneness and immorality, that should abound in the latter day, and even among professors of religion, are prophesied of; so, in this, a very ample account is given of latter daylight and glory; of both the spiritual and personal reign of Christ, with the latter of which it concludes. The light and glory of the church, in the spiritual reign, are described, Isa 60:1-3 the numerous conversions of persons to it from all quarters, east and west particularly, are prophesied of, Isa 60:4-8, the great usefulness those should be of unto it, in enriching it, and building it up, and in glorifying it, is declared, Isa 60:9-13, as also the subjection of enemies to it; the favours it should receive from kings, and the fame and renown of it through all nations and ages, Isa 60:14-16, its riches, prosperity, peace, and safety, Isa 60:17,18 and the chapter is concluded with an account of the more perfect state of the church in the personal reign of Christ, when there will be a perfection of light and righteousness; and the number of God's elect will be complete, and they will be all together, Isa 60:19-22.
