and he 1entered into the Praetoriumagain and said to Jesus, "Where are You from?" But 2Jesusgave him noanswer.

SoPilatesaid to Him, "You do not speak to me? Do You not know that I haveauthority to release You, and I haveauthority to crucify You?"

Jesusanswered, "3You would haveno*authorityover Me, unless* it had beengiven you from above; for thisreason4he who delivered Me to you has the greatersin."

As a result of thisPilatemadeefforts to release Him, but the Jewscried out saying, "5If you releasethisMan, you are nofriend of Caesar; everyone who makeshimself out to be a kingopposesCaesar."

Therefore when Pilateheardthesewords, he broughtJesus out, and 6satdown on the judgmentseat at a placecalled The Pavement, but 7in Hebrew, Gabbatha.

Now it was 8the day of preparation for the Passover; it was about the 9sixthhour. And he said to the Jews, "Behold, 10your King!"

So they cried out, "11Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!" Pilatesaid to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chiefpriestsanswered, "We havenoking but Caesar."
The Crucifixion
16So he then12handed Him over to them to be crucified.

13They tookJesus, therefore, and He went out, 14bearing His owncross, to the place called15the Place of a Skull, which is called16in Hebrew, Golgotha.

There they crucified Him, and with Him 17twoothermen, one on eitherside, and Jesus in between.

Pilatealsowrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It was written, "18JESUS THE NAZARENE, 19THE KING OF THE JEWS."
