1
Now Jericho was tightlyshutbecause of the sons of Israel ; noonewent out and noonecame in.
2
The LORDsaid to Joshua, "See, I have givenJericho into your hand, with 1its king and the valiantwarriors.
3
"You shall marcharound the city, all the men of warcircling the cityonce . You shall doso for sixdays.
4
"Also sevenpriests shall carryseven2trumpets of rams'hornsbefore the ark ; then on the seventhday you shall marcharound the cityseventimes, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.
5
"It shall be that when they make a longblast with the ram'shorn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a greatshout ; and the wall of the city will falldownaflat, and the people will go up everymanbstraightahead."
6
So Joshua the son of Nuncalled the priests and said to them, "Take up the ark of the covenant, and let sevenpriestscarryseventrumpets of rams'hornsbefore the ark of the LORD."
7
Then che said to the people, "Goforward, and marcharound the city, and let the armed men go on before the ark of the LORD."
8
And it was so, that when Joshua had spoken to the people, the sevenpriestscarrying the seventrumpets of rams'hornsbefore the LORDwentforward and blew the trumpets ; and the ark of the covenant of the LORDfollowed them.
9
The armed men wentbefore the priests who blew the trumpets, and 3the rearguardcameafter the ark, while they continued to blow the trumpets.
10
But Joshuacommanded the people, saying, "You shall not shoutnor let your voice be heardnor let a wordproceed out of your mouth, until the day I tell you, 'Shout !' Then you shall shout !"
11
So he had the ark of the LORDdtakenaround the city, circling it once ; then they came into the camp and spent the night in the camp.
12
Now Joshuaroseearly in the morning, and the prieststook up the ark of the LORD.
134The sevenpriestscarrying the seventrumpets of rams'hornsbefore the ark of the LORDwent on continually, and blew the trumpets ; and the armed men wentbefore them and 5the rearguardcameafter the ark of the LORD, while they continued to blow the trumpets.
14
Thus the secondday they marchedaround the cityonce and returned to the camp ; they didso for sixdays.
15
Then on the seventhday they roseearly at the dawning of the day and marchedaround the city in the samemannerseventimes ; only on that day they marchedaround the cityseventimes.
16
At the seventhtime, when the priestsblew the trumpets, Joshuasaid to the people, "6Shout ! For the LORD has given you the city.
17
"The city shall be 7under the ban, it and all that is in it belongs to the LORD ; onlyRahab the harloteand allwho are with her in the house shall live, because she hid the messengerswhom we sent.
18
"But as for you, onlykeep yourselves from the thingsunder the ban, so that you do not fcovet them and 8takesome of the thingsunder the ban, and make the camp of Israelaccursed and bringtrouble on it.
19
"9But all the silver and gold and articles of bronze and iron are holy to the LORD ; they shall go into the treasury of the LORD."
20
So the peopleshouted, and gpriests blew the trumpets ; and when the peopleheard the sound of the trumpet, the peopleshouted with a greatshout and the 10wallfelldownhflat, so that the peoplewent up into the city, everymanstraightiahead, and they took the city.
2111They jutterlydestroyedeverything in the city, bothman and woman, young and old, and ox and sheep and donkey, with the edge of the sword.
22Joshuasaid to the twomen who had spied out the land, "12Go into the harlot'shouse and bring the woman and all she has out of there, as you have sworn to her."
23
So the youngmen who were spieswent in and 13brought out Rahab and her father and her mother and her brothers and all she had; they also brought out all her relatives and placed them outside the camp of Israel.
2414They burned the city with fire, and all that was in it. Only the silver and gold, and articles of bronze and iron, they put into the treasury of the khouse of the LORD.
25
However, 15Rahab the harlot and her father'shousehold and all she had, Joshualspared ; and she has lived in the midst of Israel to thisday, for 16she hid the messengerswhomJoshuasent to spy out Jericho.
26
Then Joshua made them take an oath at that time, saying, "17Cursedbefore the LORD is the manwhorises up and buildsthiscityJericho ; with the loss of his firstborn he shall lay its foundation, and with the loss of his youngestson he shall set up its gates."
27
So 18the LORD was with Joshua, and his 19fame was in all the land.
