1 Soon afterwards*, He began goingaround from one city and village to another, 1proclaiming and preaching the kingdom of God. The twelve were with Him,
2
and also 2somewomenwho had beenhealed of evilspirits and sicknesses: 3Mary who was calledMagdalene, from whomsevendemons had gone out,
3
and Joanna the wife of Chuza, 4Herod's5steward, and Susanna, and manyotherswho were contributing to their support out of their privatemeans.
Parable of the Sower
46When a largecrowd was comingtogether, and those from the variouscities were journeying to Him, He spoke by way of a parable:
5
"The sowerwent out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, somefellbeside the road, and it was trampledunderfoot and the birds of the airate it up.
6
"Other seed fell on rocky soil, and as soon as it grew up, it witheredaway, because it hadnomoisture.
7
"Other seed fellamong* the thorns; and the thornsgrew up with it and choked it out.
8
"Other seed fell into the goodsoil, and grew up, and produced a crop a hundredtimes as great." As He saidthesethings, He would call out, "7He who hasears to hear, let him hear."
9
8His disciples began questioning Him as to whatthisparablemeant.
10
And He said, "9To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is in parables, so that 10SEEING THEY MAY NOT SEE, AND HEARING THEY MAY NOT UNDERSTAND.
11
"Now the parable is this: 11the seed is the word of God.
12
"Thosebeside the road are those who have heard; then the devilcomes and takesaway the word from their heart, so that they will not believe and be saved.
13
"Those on the rocky soil are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and thesehaveno firm root; they believe for a while, and in time of temptationfallaway.
14
"The seed which fellamong the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of this life, and bringnofruit to maturity.
15
"But the seed in the goodsoil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and goodheart, and hold it fast, and bearfruit with perseverance.
Parable of the Lamp
16"Now12noone after lighting a lampcovers it over with a container, orputs it under a bed; but he puts it on a lampstand, so that those who come in may see the light.
17
"13For nothing is hidden that will not becomeevident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light.
18
"Sotakecarehow you listen; 14for whoever*has, to him more shall be given; and whoever* does not have, evenwhat he thinks he has shall be takenaway from him."
19
15And His mother and brotherscame to Him, and they were unable* to get to Him because of the crowd.
20
And it was reported to Him, "Your mother and Your brothers are standingoutside, wishing to see You."
21
But He answered and said to them, "My mother and My brothers are these16who hear the word of God and do it."
Jesus Stills the Sea
2217Now on one of those days Jesus and His disciplesgot into a boat, and He said to them, "Let us goover to the otherside of 18the lake."So they launched out.
23
But as they were sailing along He fellasleep; and a fiercegale of winddescended on 19the lake, and they began to be swamped and to be in danger.
24
They came to Jesus and woke Him up, saying, "20Master, Master, we are perishing!" And He got up and 21rebuked the wind and the surgingwaves, and they stopped, and it becamecalm.
25
And He said to them, "Where is your faith?" They were fearful and amazed, saying to oneanother, "Whothen is this, that He commandseven the winds and the water, and they obey Him?"
